1. What’s the difference between 2003-2009 vs 2010-2024 1GR-FE?
2003-2009 = Single VVT-i, 245 HP. 2010-2024 = Dual VVT-i, 270 HP. 2010+ engine bolts into 2003-2009 but you’ll need your old ECU/harness or tune for full 270 HP. We include swap notes.
2. Will a JDM 1GR fit my US 4Runner?
Yes. JDM 1GR-FE long block is identical. Swap your US intake manifold, sensors, and emissions parts to stay EPA legal. We provide a checklist. Not CARB approved for CA unless you retain all original emissions equipment.
3. My 4Runner has the 4.7L V8 2UZ-FE. Can I swap to 4.0L V6?
Physically yes, but not recommended. ECU, harness, mounts, trans tuning all different. Replace with same 2UZ-FE. We stock those too – $3,200-$5,500.
4. Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii, or military APO?
Yes. All 50 states including AK & HI. APO/FPO via port. Freight quote provided before purchase. Typical HI/AK = $450-$700 liftgate.
5. What kills 4Runner engines?
1GR-FE: Overheating from failed water pump or cracked radiator. 5VZ-FE: Timing belt break. 3VZ-E: Head gaskets. 22R-E: Nothing – they outlive the truck. Change oil every 5k.
