1. How do I know which engine my Highlander has?
Check the emissions sticker under the hood or the 8th digit of your VIN. 2001-2003 = 1MZ-FE, 2004-2007 = 3MZ-FE, 2008-2013 = 2GR-FE, 2014-2019 = 2GR-FKS, 2020+ = Hybrid 2.5L or 2.4L Turbo. Or call us with your VIN.
2. Are JDM engines legal in my state?
Engine swaps follow EPA rules. The engine must be same year or newer and retain all US emissions equipment. JDM 2GR-FE long blocks are identical – you swap your US intake/sensors. We provide EPA compliance docs. Not CARB-approved for CA unless you use your original emissions parts.
3. Do you ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico?
Yes. We ship freight to all 50 states including AK & HI. PR & Guam via port. Get a quote – rates vary.
4. What’s the #1 reason Highlander engines fail?
1MZ/3MZ: Oil sludge from missed oil changes. 2GR-FE: Water pump failure causing overheat. 2GR-FKS: High-pressure fuel pump. Regular maintenance prevents 90% of failures.
5. Can I install this myself?
If you’ve done engine swaps, yes. 2GR-FE is ∼400 lbs. We recommend certified shops. We have installer network in all 50 states. Ask for referral.
